The process of mud gas separator
After occur overflow and close the well and complete well control calculate scheme, the throttle pipe is soaked mud have already connected well, mud gas separator has already connected well.
When using if mud gas separator in installed cleaning value and U pipeline discharge value must be closed.
Checking the discharge pipeline safety fixed rope or chain.
Open the throttle pipe value which is leading to mud gas separator.
After start the well control process, the mud returned from hohlraum through the throttle pipeline enter into drilling fluid mud gas separator. The separated gas by mud gas separator is discharged and the mud is discharged from separator is directly return to drilling fluids shale shaker.
During the working, continuous monitoring mud gas separator and detection the returned shale shake tank mud.
After well control successful, open the bop and closed the throttle pipe value which is connecting mud gas separator.
Opening the mud gas separator cleaning value and all rock debris are discharged to pollution pool.
If use the U pipe separator, open the U pipe discharging value and clean it with water. The all solid are discharged to pollution pool.
Cleaning, washing and checking all manifold, pipe line and value and according the requirement of soft shut well and hard shut well of drilling design rearrange the throttle pipe and the working condition of mud gas separator.

How to adjust drilling fluid process parameter ?

The three main categories of drilling fluids are water based mud (which can be dispersed and none dispersed), none aqueous mud, usually called oil based mud, and gaseous drilling fluid, in which a wide range of gases can be used.
The main functions of drilling fluids include providing hydrostatic pressure to prevent formation fluids from entering into the well bore, clean during drilling, carrying out drill cuttings and suspending the drill cuttings while drilling is paused and the drilling assembly is brought in and out of the hole. The drilling fluid used for a particular job is selected to avoid formation damage and to limit corrosion.
Solid control mainly control drilling fluid used in oilfield. The details are drilling fluid is a fluid used to drill boreholes into the earth. Often used while drilling oil and natural gas wells and on exploration drilling rigs, drilling fluids are also used for much simpler boreholes.
Adjusting drilling process parameter and control drilling mud displacement:
The mud displacement should accord to geology condition to control. Controlling the mud displacement is the key of avoiding risk mud in drilling, if it has no risk mud condition when drill the pilot hole, then the probability of ground risk mud condition is less when chambering and back to drag, so after completing the pilot hole, if it balanced with two sides pressure of unearthed point. So in order to reach the purpose, mud displacement must accord the geology to reasonable control.
To achieve effective solids control, there are several steps that should be taken. To start, obtain an effective, dependable, and durable solids control system. Ensure that the solids control system acquired is; hydraulically balanced; is capable of making both a scalp cut and a fine cut; and has sufficient drilling fluid mixing and re-circulating capacity. Do not by-pass the shale shaker or other solid control equipment while drilling. Use the smallest mesh screen possible on the linear motion shale shaker; this will change from formation to formation and will require operators to maintain a variety of screens on hand. Always maintain an adequate inventory of recommended spare parts and screens. Last and not least, a good oilfield solids control system is only effective when you certify and assign rig personnel to be responsible for equipment operation and maintenance. By employing each of these steps, operators can be achieve improved rig performance, improved rates of penetration, reduce waste disposal costs, and reduce mud costs.

Decanter centrifuge are used to process unweighted and weighted drilling mud

Decanter Centrifuge is the last stage equipment in drilling mud system for solids control and mud cleaning. The superiority of Decanting Centrifuge is embodied in the solids processing size. Decanter centrifuge could remove the solid particles with size 2-7 microns using the principle of centrifugal action, it is an ideal choice for separating particles in drilling mud. Always there is a screw pump or submersible pump to feed the mud to Decanter Centrifuge. After the drilling fluids being fed into the centrifuge drum, under the function of centrifugal force, solid phase particles are pushed to the internal wall of the drum, then to the solid discharge export of the small end of the drum and excreted. While the fluids is excreted from the overflow hole of the large end. Such cycle is to achieve the purpose of continuous separation. High speed decanting centrifuge are more effective for separation of fine solids.
The proper use of decanter centrifuge
1, When comes to the highly complex deep well and extradeep well operation, it is desirable to equip with low speed decanter centrifuge and high speed decanter centrifuge for the removal of colloidal solids, recovery of weighed materials and the reduction of drilling fluids emission.
2,The drilling fluids should be treated by decanter centrifuge for 2 weels before add weighed materials . (with the exception of emergency situation like well kill)
3, The service time of oilfield decanter centrifuge should account for 50% of the total circulation time when the density of drilling fluids is lower than 1.25g/cm3.
Control panel protection

Installing a vacuum degasser for drilling mud system

Gases are entrained in drilling fluids from the well bore during normal drilling operation as well as during “kick” or well control situations these gases present safety hazards and create operational problems, in event of hazardous gases being present, it is desirable to localize the point where gas is released from the mud by installing a vacuum degasser.
In order to separate the gas effectively in the drilling, so an efficient degasser is essential to the safe and productive drilling operations. Since gas is practically insoluble in water, it is relatively easy to detect and remove. By comparison, gas is easily soluble in oil-based muds to detect and remove it are both more difficult. Regardless of the composition of the gas encountered, gas existing in the mud can decrease efficiencies in rig pumps, centrifugal pumps and associated operational equipment. The goal is to “Keep the pumps operating”. Atmospheric separation relies on impact, turbulence, agitation or a combination of these techniques to separate gas from the fluid. It possesses few moving parts and have low initial cost. But their efficiency is limited and they may not be suitable for all conditions.
Differently, vacuum degasser has more moving parts and higher initial cost. This is due to the vacuum pump and attendant components primarily. They are, however, much more efficient. Because gas volume is inversely proportional to pressure, gas bubbles in the fluid is more rapid under pressure. By combining impact and turbulence these features with low pressure, modern vacuum degassers proves fast and highly effective in the aspect of separating dissolved gas.
As the purification equipment of oil & gas drilling fluids solids control system, vacuum degasser actually is used to remove little invaded gas in drilling mud. It will be set between shale shaker and drilling fluid cleaner/desander. Vacuum degasser separates the gas that migrates into the drilling fluids by the function of vacuum pump and vacuum tubular tank. If the gases have not been separated from the drilling fluids, it may cause well kick, and increase the total financial cost and time spent on the drilling project. If there is no gas migrating into the drilling fluids, the vacuum degasser would work as a big mud agitator, to enhance the shearing rate of the drilling mud.

Drilling Fluid Solids Control's History

Anyone having a broad familiarity with oil & gas drilling knows that drilling fluid is quite indispensable in oil drilling. It is mainly used to help the drilling of boreholes. There are three main categories of drilling fluid: water-based drilling fluid, oil-based drilling fluid and gaseous drilling fluid.
Drilling fluid is truly functional in drilling industry since it is able to remove cuttings from wells, suspend and release cuttings, control formation pressures, seal permeable formations, maintain wellbore stability, cool, lubricate and support the bit and drilling assembly, minimize formation damage, etc.
However, due to the precious materials used in drilling fluid, once it is deserted, it is fairly hard and expensive to produce and concoct another. What is more, drilling fluids is not automatically recyclable since solid phase, cuttings and gases will penetrate and change its performance from many aspects. For example, the active clay included in cuttings will exert greater negetive influence on its viscosity, thus causing difficulties in drilling and forming filter cake.
Many oilfields and companies injected water or other chemical fluids to dilute drilling fluid for maintaining certain density and visocity. Later, mud bits were discovered as more effective and less costly. They were required for holding an excess volume of drilling mud at the surface, which allows time for settling of the finer rock cuttings and for the release of entrained gas bubbles not mechanically separated. With the development of scientific technology and increase of mud treatment standards worldwide, nowadays mud rotary system also includes various solids control equipment such as oilfield shale shaker, hydraulic cones, decanting centrifuge, vacuum degasser and so on. This addition has largely improved the mud treating effects, reduced huge amount of cost on drilling fluids and borehole maintenance and kept drilling workers and environment from fatal damages.
Shale Shaker is the first grade solid control equipment for drilling mud system. It is quite useful for separation of solid phase above 75 μm in diameter. Then, it sends the mud into the next grade---desander for more delicate separation of solid phase between 45-74 μm in diameter. Treated mud will flow into desilter, the third grade equipment for further treatment where the 15-44 μm cuttings will be taken away. In the forth grade, low-speed and high-speed centrifuge respectively remove tiny particles like barites and infinitesimal substances that is 2-5 μm in diameter. If the drilling mud is entrained by gases,drilling fluids cleaner, degasser can be installed between shale shaker and oilfield desander,desilter.
After drilling mud goes through all the processes, they can be vey well recycled and re-applied in oil drilling.
