There are several types of shale shakers and screens available in the solids control equipment market today, and their utility depends on the nature of the drilling operation. Drilling Shale Shaker Sieve Paste and Sieve Blocking Problems

A oilfield drilling shale shaker is a device that removes undesirable solids from a drilling mud. Drill bit cuttings and pieces of formation that have brought into the wellbore (or called “drilling solids) and brought out to the surface by the drilling fluid. The fluid flows across a shale shaker before entering the mud tanks to be treated. Most drilling shale shakers install a vibrating motion to a weir or plastic mesh screen. This motion allows the drilling mud to pass through the screen and remove solid lager than the openings in the screen. The shale shaker is the primary and the first stage drilling solid removal equipment in solid control system and usually combined with other solid control equipment.
Sieve Paste and sieve mesh blocking phenomenon since the effective flow area decreases, the shale shaker amount of processing will decrease, easily lead to the loss of drilling fluid . Further, when processing the high viscosity fluid , and shale shaker screen(wire mesh)easily sticky drilling fluid , the mesh size becomes smaller , or completely paste, a phenomenon known sieve paste. Since the mesh size decreases, can be isolated more small particles. For example , our 40 * 40 mesh sieve , sieve paste is not separable out particles larger than 440um . Sieve paste , you may separate the particles larger than 220um . Shale shaker working , the threshold may be wedged between the mesh particles clogging the above , a phenomenon known as blocking sieve .
In addition to cuttings and clay paste causing sieve paste and sieve block , the drilling fluid remaining in the sieve dried up , the drilling fluid soluble minerals ( such as salt , anhydrite , some carbonate ) will precipitate and sticky on the wire , also make smaller mesh , or even blocked . In addition , the drilling fluid oils ( eg threaded oil) in the sieve will be sticky .
When the sieve paste and sieve blocking , it shall promptly spray wash or replace sieve. Especially in the shaker is stopped working before , while the vibration, while water ( or jet ), not only help clean the screen surface , to maintain smooth mesh , while also removing the drilling fluid paste, but also reduce the screen load.

Oil Drilling Waste and Its Management Is A Big Problem

On March 26th, “The Guardian” put a global spotlight upon a coverage, saying that Peru which is located in Amazon forests made a sudden declaration of the environmental state of emergency in a part of its northern Amazon forest. This was due to the oil drillings operated by Argentinian Company Pluspetrol that had created highly unacceptable levels of lead, cadmium, chrome and petroleum-related compounds contamination in soil.
This declaration was made because the checks carried out by Peru’s Environment Ministry this February and March has found overly high levels of lead, cadmium, chrome and petroleum-related compounds in the soil at different points in Pastaza valley. The drilling waste produced in the process of oil drilling can be drilling sewage, drilling fluids, drilling cuttings and dirty oil compounds. It is a kind of stable colloidal suspension, consisted of clay, weighting materials, chemical agents, sewerage, dirty oil, cuttings, etc. as well as some other harmful chemical elements like, hydrocarbon, salt, polymers, heavy-metal ions, some particles in barite, asphalt and other modifiers. All the elements concerned have been the major contaminants in oil exploration since they own such properties as high chroma, high oil content, high COD, high suspension, high salinity and so on. Every finished well in oilfield may produce a waste slurry pond. However, one oilfield is comprised by tens of thousands well which may produce tens of thousand slurry ponds, including at least hundreds of cubic meters or at most thousands of cubic meters drilling waste. Since the waste contains soluble inorganic salt contaminants, heavy metal contaminants and organic hydrocarbon contaminants, that would be an ideal solution to simply pile it up or bury it in some pits. Rain immersion and river brush could easily make it harmful to its surrounding soil, water sources, farmlands and air.
Achuar and Kichwa indigenous people have always been living in Pastaza River basin bordered between Peru and Ecuador. They have complained about the pollution all these decades which the successive governments failed to deal with. Officials indicate that for years the state lacked the required environmental quality standards.
Peru issued a new law on March 25th in order to complete the standards, which for the first time set out the acceptable limits of soil contaminants and has been considered a key advance. Accordingly, Peru’s Environment Ministry gave Pluspetrol 90 days to clean up the affected areas and reduce the risk of pollution to the local residents.
As the largest oil & natural gas producer, Pluspetrol took over from Occidental Petroleum and operated Peru Oilfield in 2001, but neither party has cleaned up the pollution. Several multi-million dollar fines have been levied against Pluspetrol in recent years, including the 1.1 million dollars ( 6,832,000 CNY ) fined for failing to clean up the oil spill in the Peru’s largest national park. Peru’s Environment Ministry says that they will further the environmental checks in other Pluspetrol oilfields.
To protect the environment will benefit both the contemporary and the future generations. Nowadays, many countries have passed legislations based on their own scenarios for the ever-worse global environment, hopefully resorting to laws would bring about good environmental behaviors. And meanwhile, oil exploration as a high-pollution industry must also seek a new production pattern to balance environmental protection and benefits.

Importance of the Solids Control Equipment's Location Proper Arrangement

Solid control system includes the full range of amenities for the process of drilling fluid returning to the system drilling circulation pump suction inlet from the wellhead.

1, The manifold arrangement:
When drilling deep well, in order to deal with underground accident, the manifold should be arranged so that drilling pump can quickly pump drilling fluids in all the mud tank except suction tank, discharge liquor of heavier funnel can be pumped into the suction tank and each storage tank, these rely on pipelines and valves to control.
2, Mud gun (drilling fluid gun):
Role of the of the mud gun is using the high-speed flow of gun nozzles to impact the depositional solid phase in drilling fluid tank bottom and suspend it. Meanwhile, when the mud agitator was stopped after a period of time, the deposited solid phase bury the impeller and need to restart, the drilling fluid mud gun can eliminate parts of electrical resistance, which provides a reliable guarantee for the normal operation of the mud agitator. Drilling gun has high and low pressure, drilling fluid pump tributaries supply fluid for high pressure gun,the pressure rating of 4-6 MPa; low-pressure is supplied by centrifugal sand pump with the fluid, the pressure rating of 0.2 to 0.3 MPa. The equipped amount should be based on the number of configured mud agitator to decide.

3, Mud agitator:
Mud agitator‘s function to maintain the stability of drilling fluid porperties, the drilling fluid discharged from the mud agitator impeller must be make solids phase suspended upward velocity greater than the downward settling velocity in the tank, and thus mud agitator with certain impeller diameter and rotate speed has a certain working volume. The time that mud agitator make the drilling fluid for primary circulation is called   cycling time. According to the information abroad, the cycle time is generally 30 ~ 90s. In solid control system, the mud tank unit to place shale shaker and other drilling mud solids control equipment needs settling sand, so take the maximum cycle time, while the other storage tanks and drilling mud pump tank should take the minimum time to ensure the stability of drilling fluid properties. Usually take a cycle time of 60s as an agitator quantity basis.

4,The weighted jet mud mixer hopper:
In order to weight drilling fluid or handle small quantity of drilling fluid in drilling process, we usually set jet mud mixer near the drilling pump suction tank, the discharge line should be able to reach the storage tank and a suction tank, so that ww can handle processing downhole accident.
