Drilling fluids solids control equipment in the oilfield

Drilling mud solids control equipment (solids control for short) are drilling equipment to control or separate the undesirable and even harmful solids mixed in drilling fluids. The separation of harmful solids from drilling fluids will contributes to better mud property and meet the increased demand on drilling efficiency by the scientific application and arrangement of solids control equipment.To form resonable and effective workflow of solids contrtol equipment is the key to achieve solidsc control goal.
The new type drilling mud solids control system adopts five stage of solids control,following is the proper workflow of solids control technology.
The first solids control equipment mainly remove the large particles.The drilling fluids,pumped out of drilling hole containing large cuttings,will flow into shale shaker through connecting pipes.The removal of particles with diameter above 74 microns in shale shaker marks the achievement of first stage of solids control.
The second stage of solids control equipment is vacuum degasser used to remove harmful gas gathered in drilling fluids during normal operation.The vacuum degasser is the dedicated degasser equipment specialized in immediate and effective removal of undesirable gas which will change mud density and exert security hazard such as blowout and well fall.

The treated solids particles will be flow into the third solids control equipment where the sand with diameter from 44 to 74 microns will be removed. Desander plays its parts in this stage.
The fouth solids control equipment is desilter.In this case,the solids particles with diameter ranging from 15 to 44 microns are to be separated from the rest and will go through further processing in decanter centrifuge.It is worth of being noticed that the desander and desilter can be combined together to form a more effective solids control equipment named mud cleaner.
The fifth or the final solids control equipment is decanter centrifuge.After treated by the metioned solids control equipment,the drilling fluids contains fine solids( whith diameter from 2 to 15 microns)which have been failed removed will be treated by decanter centrifuge.With a high centrifugal force and high end technology,Decanter centrifuge is highly effective in the separation of fine particlels.
The mentioned five solids control equipment is mainly used in complex and demanding drilling condition, however,the drillers can select one or part of the metioned equipment depending the practic drilling operation.

The structure of oilfield drilling mud agitator

Mud agitator is an important part of the drilling mud solids control system. It is mounted on the circulating tank. The vanes of the agitator dip into the mud to agitate the fluid uniformly.
A Mud Agitator is used in surface of mud system to suspend solids and maintain homogeneous mixture throughout the system. A mechanical agitator is driven by an explosion-proof motor, coupled to a gear box that drives the impeller shaft. The impellers (turbines) transform mechanical power into fluid circulation or agitation. The objective is to obtain a uniform suspension of all solids.

The impeller and shaft of mud agitator
The mild steel shaft is coupled to the gear reduction assembly with a rigid coupling. All shafts are keyed at the bottom for adjusting the height of the impeller. Shaft length is depend on the depth and should be informed before ordering.
The canted blade impeller used in tanks deeper than five feet, promotes axial as well as radial flow. Because the blades move the liquid downward to the bottom of the tank and then toward the tank walls and up, all fluid is mixed continuously and the same consistency is maintained in all parts of the tank. Field experience has confirmed that this design provides the most homogeneous mixture over the widest range of installations and helps to eliminate heavy slugs or light spots that could cause control problems when pumped down-hole. Jet mud mixer is a special equipment to prepare and increase the drilling fluids weight by adding and mixing bentonite, change the fluid density, change the mud density, viscosity, and dehydration. Purpose of Jet Mud Mixer
Jet mud mixer is used to make up drilling mud or increase total amount of the drilling mud, change the mud density, viscosity, and dehydration. When making up again, put the materials of drilling mud (such as bentonite and barite powder) and corresponding chemical additives (such as polymer) into the recycle tank through the jet unit. Here, we should note is that the materials of drilling mud and chemical additives can not be put directly in case of deposited largely or dump together. Thus, we can’t obtain diffused and well-proportioned drilling fluid.
