Almost all the large capacity drilling project need one set drilling fluids recycling system. While the drilling waste management system could also be classified as high configuration system and economic configuration model. The high configuration mud system is always be equipped for the oil drilling rig. For some deep oil well drilling, the mud system may be consisting of many mud tanks for active mud storage. Keeping Oil Mud Shale Shaker's Normal Operation in High Temperature

Condition temperature is one of the affected factors to make sure normal operation for shale shaker. In summer, temperature condition always surpasses what shale shaker could bear. Generally, 40 centigrade is the limit temperature for shale shaker working condition. Therefore, not only production conditions but also working condition, especially temperature factor should be taken into consideration for the equipment itself. The following description will focus on effective measures to make sure normal operation of shale shaker preventing high temperature conditions.
1/ Setting up shelter to reduce high temperature directly to shakers.

Excessive expose under the sun tends to make the machine reduce its service life and also may lead to faults as high working temperature of the whole machine, which will affects separation quality and efficiency, even causes machine parts damage such as damaged vibration motors. If shale shaker is operated indoor or cave dwelling, workers should be aware of adjusting the indoor temperature in order to keep ventilation. As long as make sure condition temperature is low than 40 centigrade for shakers, machine will be operated in good condition.

2/ Generally, high temperature of shale shaker mainly comes from vibration motor. If high temperature concentrates on the motor, it will have great influence its insulation material and easily causes low service life of shale shaker. So a temperature limit device is installed in the motor to reminder high temperature risk and some instant measures such as lower the temperature condition.

3/ Another crucial points should be pointed that proper selection of suitable motor can’t be ignored either. Accordingly, motors can never be too low power to save money which will easily cause unqualified operation effect and low service life of the motor. On the contrary, the motor power is not allowed to be increased excessively for high capacity of shale shaker. If larger power motor is installed, high operation frequency would damage the whole machine.

Common Failures and the Reasons of Solids Control Equipment

Solids control equipment is very important in oil exploration , the development trend of China's solid control equipment is very stable, which  is consist of a lot of equipment. Because of the high usage of solids control equipment, they often break down, now let's talk about the issue about the failure of solids control equipment parts,these problems causes and solutions .

When the solids control equipment being used in drilling,the mud agitator is an often damaged equipment. The main reason is high fluid density, high viscosity, low power mixer, resulting overload of use and can not insist on continuous operation. If no timely maintenance,lubrication and unreasonable installation,they can also cause this phenomenon. So we need to pay attention when we maintaining and repairing the equipment, we must operate it in normal methods so that we can get normal efficiency.

Sometimes solids control equipment desander and desilter in swirling funnel will be blocked causing equipment can not be used, the reason is the use of unreasonable or shaker screen cloth damage, followed by addition Sand Pump and except water pipes mud pump not installed filters, large particles into the cyclone funnel debris caused by blocked. Screw Conveyor Used in Drilling Waste Management

Screw Conveyor is called Auger Conveyor, in oilfield drilling waste management, it is widely used for drilling cuttings transfer to feed to the drilling cuttings dryer.

Normally, totally 3 screw conveyor are needed for the drilling cuttings dryer system.
Two screw conveyors will be deployed between the mud cleaner and shale shaker and the Vertical Centrifuge unit to transport drilled cutting discharged from the rig shakers and the mud cleaner to the drilling cuttings dryer. The length of the first screw conveyor depends on the mud tank solids control equipment layout, normally 25 meters is required for the 3 shale shaker and 1 mud cleaner drilling cuttings discharge.

The third screw conveyor is required to remove the processed dry  cutting from  Vertical cuttings dryer  to the drilling  cuttings  skips.  The Screw conveyor under the shale shaker and mud cleaner is  about  25m length  will  be  placed  on  top  of  the walkway in front of the shakers and mud cleaner with enough extension to allow for an emergency skip to be placed before the second screw conveyor. This Screw conveyor will  be used both during WBM drilling phase and OBM drilling phase. Two discharge holes with a sliding plate will be made on the screw conveyor to allow for cuttings discharge into the coral during

WBM phase and to be closed during OBM phase. A third discharge hole will be towards the end of the auger extension to discharge into a drilling cuttings skip in case of emergency repair or maintenance on the Vertical Cuttings Dryer.

The next Scew conveyor (2) about 10 mtr length will be at an angle (90Deg) from the first screw conveyor, facing the coral direction. This screw conveyor will be inclined vertically to about 10-15 deg off its swivel base line, to be able to discharge drilling cuttings at the top/feed end of the drilling cuttings dryer.

The third (3) conveyor about 6 mtr length will be installed beneath the Drilling Cuttings Cryer chute and inclined outwards to fill the double skip arrangement.

Some notices for drilling mud agitator buyers

The mud agitators are high-efficiency mud-mixing units which used for stiring mud slurry to maintain suspension of solids .The agitator is mounted on top of the mud tank and has one or two impeller immersed in the mud slurry. Mud mixing tank is working to keep drilling mud balance by add some chemicals. While drilling mud stay in tank , it will need mud agitators to avoid sedimentation.
Mud agitators utility notes for buyers:
1, check whether the mud agitator selection is correct, the actual conditions of use are consistent with the specified conditions of use.
2, the stirrer motor and two hard steel cable protection metal hoses in the mud tanks, to ensure sealing pipe connections.
3, with 0-500V Megger, check the motor three main cable wire insulation resistance of not less than 5 megohms, disabled Megger check control cables, submersible mixer avoid damage to the internal electrical components, and applications multimeter check control cable.

The three main categories of drilling fluids are water based mud (which can be dispersed and none dispersed), none aqueous mud, usually called oil based mud, and gaseous drilling fluid, in which a wide range of gases can be used.
The main functions of drilling fluids include providing hydrostatic pressure to prevent formation fluids from entering into the well bore, clean during drilling, carrying out drill cuttings and suspending the drill cuttings while drilling is paused and the drilling assembly is brought in and out of the hole. The drilling fluid used for a particular job is selected to avoid formation damage and to limit corrosion.
Solid control mainly control drilling fluid used in oilfield. The details are drilling fluid is a fluid used to drill boreholes into the earth. Often used while drilling oil and natural gas wells and on exploration drilling rigs, drilling fluids are also used for much simpler boreholes.
Adjusting drilling process parameter and control drilling mud displacement：
The mud displacement should accord to geology condition to control. To achieve effective solids control, there are several steps that should be taken. To start, obtain an effective, dependable, and durable solids control system. Ensure that the solids control system acquired is; hydraulically balanced; is capable of making both a scalp cut and a fine cut; and has sufficient drilling fluid mixing and re-circulating capacity. Do not by-pass the shale shaker or other solid control equipment while drilling. Use the smallest mesh screen possible on the linear motion shale shaker; this will change from formation to formation and will require operators to maintain a variety of screens on hand. Always maintain an adequate inventory of recommended spare parts and screens. Last and not least, a good oilfield solids control system is only effective when you certify and assign rig personnel to be responsible for equipment operation and maintenance. By employing each of these steps, operators can be achieve improved rig performance, improved rates of penetration, reduce waste disposal costs, and reduce mud costs.

Decanter centrifuge are used to process unweighted and weighted drilling mud

Decanter Centrifuge is the last stage equipment in drilling mud system for solids control and mud cleaning. The superiority of Decanting Centrifuge is embodied in the solids processing size. Decanter centrifuge could remove the solid particles with size 2-7 microns using the principle of centrifugal action, it is an ideal choice for separating particles in drilling mud. Always there is a screw pump or submersible pump to feed the mud to Decanter Centrifuge. After the drilling fluids being fed into the centrifuge drum, under the function of centrifugal force, solid phase particles are pushed to the internal wall of the drum, then to the solid discharge export of the small end of the drum and excreted. While the fluids is excreted from the overflow hole of the large end. Such cycle is to achieve the purpose of continuous separation. High speed decanting centrifuge are more effective for separation of fine solids.
The proper use of decanter centrifuge
1, When comes to the highly complex deep well and extradeep well operation, it is desirable to equip with low speed decanter centrifuge and high speed decanter centrifuge for the removal of colloidal solids, recovery of weighed materials and the reduction of drilling fluids emission.
2,The drilling fluids should be treated by decanter centrifuge for 2 weels before add weighed materials . (with the exception of emergency situation like well kill)
3, The service time of oilfield decanter centrifuge should account for 50% of the total circulation time when the density of drilling fluids is lower than 1.25g/cm3.

Installing a vacuum degasser for drilling mud system

Gases are entrained in drilling fluids from the well bore during normal drilling operation as well as during “kick” or well control situations these gases present safety hazards and create operational problems, in event of hazardous gases being present, it is desirable to localize the point where gas is released from the mud by installing a vacuum degasser.
In order to separate the gas effectively in the drilling, so an efficient degasser is essential to the safe and productive drilling operations. Since gas is practically insoluble in water, it is relatively easy to detect and remove. By comparison, gas is easily soluble in oil-based muds to detect and remove it are both more difficult. Regardless of the composition of the gas encountered, gas existing in the mud can decrease efficiencies in rig pumps, centrifugal pumps and associated operational equipment. The goal is to “Keep the pumps operating”. Atmospheric separation relies on impact, turbulence, agitation or a combination of these techniques to separate gas from the fluid. It possesses few moving parts and have low initial cost. But their efficiency is limited and they may not be suitable for all conditions.
Differently, vacuum degasser has more moving parts and higher initial cost. This is due to the vacuum pump and attendant components primarily. They are, however, much more efficient. Because gas volume is inversely proportional to pressure, gas bubbles in the fluid is more rapid under pressure. By combining impact and turbulence these features with low pressure, modern vacuum degassers proves fast and highly effective in the aspect of separating dissolved gas.
As the purification equipment of oil & gas drilling fluids solids control system, vacuum degasser actually is used to remove little invaded gas in drilling mud. It will be set between shale shaker and drilling fluid cleaner/desander. Vacuum degasser separates the gas that migrates into the drilling fluids by the function of vacuum pump and vacuum tubular tank. Drilling Fluid Solids Control's History

Anyone having a broad familiarity with oil & gas drilling knows that drilling fluid is quite indispensable in oil drilling. It is mainly used to help the drilling of boreholes. There are three main categories of drilling fluid: water-based drilling fluid, oil-based drilling fluid and gaseous drilling fluid.
Drilling fluid is truly functional in drilling industry since it is able to remove cuttings from wells, suspend and release cuttings, control formation pressures, seal permeable formations, maintain wellbore stability, cool, lubricate and support the bit and drilling assembly, minimize formation damage, etc.
However, due to the precious materials used in drilling fluid, once it is deserted, it is fairly hard and expensive to produce and concoct another. What is more, drilling fluids is not automatically recyclable since solid phase, cuttings and gases will penetrate and change its performance from many aspects. For example, the active clay included in cuttings will exert greater negetive influence on its viscosity, thus causing difficulties in drilling and forming filter cake.
Many oilfields and companies injected water or other chemical fluids to dilute drilling fluid for maintaining certain density and visocity. Later, mud bits were discovered as more effective and less costly. They were required for holding an excess volume of drilling mud at the surface, which allows time for settling of the finer rock cuttings and for the release of entrained gas bubbles not mechanically separated. With the development of scientific technology and increase of mud treatment standards worldwide, nowadays mud rotary system also includes various solids control equipment such as oilfield shale shaker, hydraulic cones, decanting centrifuge, vacuum degasser and so on. This addition has largely improved the mud treating effects, reduced huge amount of cost on drilling fluids and borehole maintenance and kept drilling workers and environment from fatal damages.
Shale Shaker is the first grade solid control equipment for drilling mud system. It is quite useful for separation of solid phase above 75 μm in diameter. Then, it sends the mud into the next grade---desander for more delicate separation of solid phase between 45-74 μm in diameter. Treated mud will flow into desilter, the third grade equipment for further treatment where the 15-44 μm cuttings will be taken away. In the forth grade, low-speed and high-speed centrifuge respectively remove tiny particles like barites and infinitesimal substances that is 2-5 μm in diameter. If the drilling mud is entrained by gases,drilling fluids cleaner, degasser can be installed between shale shaker and oilfield desander,desilter.
After drilling mud goes through all the processes, they can be vey well recycled and re-applied in oil drilling.
